About the hotel
Janakpurdham wakes early. Bells from the Janaki Mandir carry over the ponds before sunrise, cycle rickshaws fill the lanes, and by mid-morning the bazaar is loud and full of colour.
We are just off all of it — close enough to walk to the temple before breakfast, far enough that you sleep well. Cool floors, quiet rooms, and people at the desk who have lived in Janakpur their whole lives.
Facilities
The kitchen cooks what this region eats: river fish in mustard, bagiya in season, and dal that has been given its time. There is North Indian and Chinese on the menu too, and the chef will cook something plain and light if you have been travelling.
In the city where Ram and Sita were married, weddings are the big occasion. We host receptions, sangeet and family gatherings, with catering from our own kitchen and help with flowers, seating and the order of the day.
Our front desk staff are from Janakpur. They can tell you which lane to take, when the temple is quietest, and where to buy a painting.

King Janak's capital, where Sita was born and where she married Ram. Ask at the desk and we will arrange a guide, a rickshaw or a car for the day.
Built in 1910 on the spot where Sita is said to have been born, the temple is the heart of the city. Go early, before the heat and the crowds — or come back after dark, when it is lit up. It is ten minutes' walk from the hotel.
Here the bow of Shiva was broken, and a prince of Ayodhya won the princess of Mithila.
Each November or December the city celebrates the marriage of Ram and Sita, and pilgrims arrive in their tens of thousands. Rooms go early.
